Naked Eye Astrology
Naked Eye Astrology draws from the ancient tradition of Vedic Astrology, also known as Jyotish. Jyoti is the flame burning at the end of the candle. Jyotish is the science and study of the light of stars and planets as luminaries. These luminaries can guide us through darkness and onto a path of liberation. This deep and vast system of knowledge provides a compass, giving us the opportunity to look deeper within our consciousness and move us into alignment with the evolution of our Soul. Ultimately, we can find the Jyoti within ourselves leading us to inner peace and well being.
Vedic Astrology, the astrology of ancient India, has its roots in the vast Vedic culture and literature. Vedic literature includes the Brahmana Granthas, Vedas and Upanishads. It uses the sidereal zodiac which is different than the tropical system that most forms of Western Astrology use. You can learn more about the difference here.
Kari has been deeply on the Yogic path since she found her first Iyengar yoga teacher in San Luis Obispo in 1998. While her first experiences of yoga were through the asana and pranayma practices, she quickly found herself immersing into the Vedas and Ayurveda as a path for healing on all levels. She began studying Vedic Astrology in 2015 and met her teacher, Komilla Sutton, during a pilgrimage to the Nakshatra temples in Southern India in 2019. Since, Kari has formally taken 3 years of study with Komilla Sutton, completing her Three Year Vedic Astrology Jyotish Course. She continues to study this vast system of knowledge and intends to deepen her studies with Komilla over the coming years.
Kari sees the Vedic Astrology lens as providing insight and guidance for people who are on a path of awakening to their deeper Soul rhythms and growing intimacy with their Soul’s purpose in this lifetime. It provides a long arc view of the evolutionary work the Soul is here to do in this lifetime and by studying the birth chart, transits and planetary cycles, a cosmic compass emerges that a person can become conscious of and buoyed in as they co-create their life with life itself, fully supported by the planetary energies that are always influencing us. The planetary luminaries that will be studied are the “planets” (which include the nodes of the moon) that we can see with the naked eye from planet earth: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu (north node of moon) and Ketu (south node of moon).
